Who gets up to what and where?

When it comes to dating, it turns out that teens around the world are actually very similar. Basically, they just want to hang out, meet boys and have fun.

Everywhere, teens like to do the same stuff - go to movies (Titanic was almost as popular in Japan as America), eat fast food (Maccy D), and listen to their fave tracks. But here are a few interesting facts and dating dos and don’ts from across the globe . . .

  • The more the merrier. In countries like Kenya, South Korea, and Jamaica dating usually involves going out in groups. In Spain, teens often join a club called a pandilla, where they hike or cycle with a group of friends.

  • Starting early. French teenagers start dating as young as 12 or 13. In Sweden, the average age is around 15. Jamaican teens usually wait until they’re about 16 or 17.

  • Getting around. So how do teens get around on dates? For American teens, driving is easier and cheaper than in a lot of places. The driving age in many countries is 18. In Korea it’s 20! In China they rarely drive. In France they walk a lot. And in Sweden they usually get a ride from their parents or older sibling.

  • No dating allowed! In some countries, especially where arranged marriages are common, teenage girls aren't allowed to date. That of course doesn’t mean they don’t. Hmmm.
