If life was a movie, we would trip and fall into the arms of a dashing young stranger and live happily ever after! The background score would eliminate any need to make conversation or charm him with your witty repertoire.

Life is not a movie.
It is however, a series of events that give you an opportunity to meet people, make friends and maybe get hooked up!

So use these events to your advantage. When you see someone you find interesting (ahem read cute smile, gorgeous bod or to-die-for eyes) whether at a coffee shop or a party, make eye contact and give him a friendly smile. Don’t overdo it – you don’t want to come across as the neighbourhood psycho. If he smiles back, progress to introducing yourself. A simple ‘Hi’ with your name would suffice.

Shy? If at a party, ask a common friend to introduce you. Now that the initial introduction is over, try some conversation starters like “How do you know the party host?” The best bet would be to start off with a casual compliment, “Nice shoes, where’d you get them from?”

Once you’ve started, keep the ball rolling by trying different topics till you find common ground. Good topics to try would be – music, movies, sports, fashion. Do not drill him with questions, it’s not an interview. Relax, smile and listen to him. These Y-chromosomeys love to yap about themselves especially if they want to impress you.
Be funny but don’t push it – leave slapstick to Jim Carrey.

Keep your body language flirty but subtle. This means make eye contact but look away from time to time or casually touch his arm while talking. Leave the batting of eyelashes and twirling of hair to a bare minimum. After all, you’d like a date but you’re not that desperate! Most importantly don’t monopolise his time. Leave him wanting more, enough to ask you your number! Ah wicked.
